CSI:Surprise

It was April 3, 2008. The writer's strike was over and the new episodes were starting to appear on the tele. I was watching the latest of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (CSI:CSI, strange) series. As always, Gilbert Grissom (I call him Gil) was immersed in his latest case. He was looking through a number of books used by his suspect. Suddenly, I heard him say Dave Eggers. Dave Eggers? I know a Dave Eggers. The book Gil was looking at was "What in the What."

Turns out that the Dave Eggers Gil was referring to was indeed our own David Eggers, a Beta Eta Pike! His name had crept up a number of times before, but never on national TV! Dave is a native of Lake Forest, IL and a U of I grad in the early 90's. He has been a prolific writer since college. He has published many books and articles under a number of pseudonyms . For more on Dave's life, check out David Eggers on Google. Thanks to Dave for bringing Beta Eta Pikes to the forefront!

Your Attention Please!

Changes are at hand.

Recently, the Housing Corporation has decided to hire the Omega Financial Corporation to manage our Capital Campaign. From now on, they will be in charge of working with our alumni in the effort to build a new facility at 102 E. Chalmers. This is great news since the corporate contact for this vision is a Pike -- Ryan Flickinger will be our new corporate representative. Ryan is a Pike from Southern Illinous University. He has been on the National staff as Chapter Consultant and is currently the Regional President for the fraternity. We could not ask for a better representative for this effort!

In addition to this change, there will be other obvious adjustments as time goes on.

>> First, this web site will be taken over by the undergraduate chapter. It will focus on undergraduate issues and will hopefully provide everyone with a "current event" approach to our web presence.

>>Second, the alumni and Capital Campaign functions will be taken over by Omega Financial. We will announce their web address when it becomes available.

>> Third, the publication of the Beta Eta News will no longer be from Champaign. Once again, it will be produced by Omega Financial as part of their Capital Campaign management.

>>Fourth, the phone number which has been published as the Capital Campaign number will be discontinued.

>>Lastly, the PO Box which has been published as the Capital Campaign mailing center will be discontinued.

Please watch for information coming from Omega Financial which should clarify the new Capital Campaign procedures.

One More Time!!!!

Dateline: Saturday, July 28, 2007, Memphis, TN. For the first time in its history, Beta Eta has earned its THIRD Smythe Award in a row! The chapter has earned the coveted award several times in the past, but never three times in a row! This gives the chapter the distinction of being a "Legacy" chapter for the first time in the history of Beta Eta. Since this award is given to less than 2% of the chapters in the nation, this is indeed a grand accomplishment!

Congratulations to the undergraduate Brothers for their exceptional efforts!!

In addition to the Smythe Award, the Chapter also brought home the International Workday Manpower Award, the 100 Man Award, the Scholarship Award and the International Work Day Participation Award.

We hope our alumni will throw all their support behind this fantastic chapter!
